
On Saturday, August 9, 2025, the Rivers 2050 Vision hosted a Sports Focus Group Discussion, bringing together some of Rivers State’s leading voices in sports journalism, management, and advocacy.
The conversation was part of the Rivers 2050 Vision, Africa’s first citizen-led foresight project, aimed at co-creating a long-term development vision for the state by the year 2050.
The panel featured:
- Sammy Wejinya, Sports Group Head, Megaletrics Limited
- Carl Orakwue, Program Manager, Nigeria Info FM Port Harcourt
- China Acheru, Program Manager, Wazobia FM Port Harcourt
During the discussion, participants explored how Rivers State can:
- Develop grassroots talent to compete on the global stage
- Build and maintain world-class sports infrastructure
- Position sports as a driver of economic growth and social cohesion
- Align local sports development with the Nigeria 2050 agenda
This FGD was one of many sectoral discussions leading up to the publication of the Rivers 2050 Vision Book, a blueprint for the state’s future built from the voices of its people.
